There are 2 services at St John’s each Sunday: 11:00am, and 6:30pm. Children’s groups run at 11:00am.
The 10:30 service is our biggest congregation and is suitable for all ages, with separate children’s activities on second, third and fourth Sundays. A crèche is provided every week for children aged 3 and under.
We have a range of service types but a consistent biblical message and welcoming atmosphere. Stay on afterwards for refreshments and a chat!
First Sunday – Together for Worship
A service for all ages with an informal style and contemporary music.
Second Sunday – Holy Communion
With organ-led songs and hymns.
Third Sunday – Morning Worship
A service focused on teaching, with organ-led songs and hymns.
Fourth Sunday – Holy Communion
With a more informal style and with music led by the band.
Fifth Sunday – Together for Communion
For the occasional fifth Sundays, we meet with the whole church family for an all-age communion service.
Our evening service has a relaxed feel with a focus on following a regular sermon series. Join us beforehand for refreshments. Music is led by the band.
A midweek service of Holy Communion
is held every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
A Few Tips for Newcomers
Where to park? There are several public car parks near to the church. See the directions. It’s currently free on a Sunday and in the evenings.
What to wear? Whatever you feel comfortable in! Many people come dressed casually, others a bit smarter. However, St John’s is a large 650 year old church with traditionally mediocre heating, so Wrap up warm when the weather is cold!
Where to sit? You can sit where you like. There are modern comfy seats at the back, with the rest of the seating being pews. The stewards on the door will help guide you to a seat if necessary.
There is level access into St John’s throughout the main body of the church. An accessible toilet is located at the back. There is a hearing loop throughout the church. Large print song books and service books are available on request.
We try to make St John’s as welcoming as possible for children, and they are a very important part of our congregation. The most appropriate service for younger children is the 10:30am service, which is when the children’s groups run each week except for the first and fifth Sundays. Groups are provided for children aged 4 to 14, and take place the St John’s school rooms, located a short distance away. Children normally stay for the first part of the service and return at the end of the service. For younger children a crèche is provided.
