St John’s offers a range of groups and activities for children and young people. Sunday morning groups are provided during the 10:30am service for children aged 0 to 14 years. Groups for young people aged 11 to 18 years also meet on Friday and Sunday evenings, see the Youth Groups page.

We aim to offer a fun and safe environment for young people to develop a a strong and lasting relationship with Jesus.

Sunday Morning Groups

Children’s groups take place on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays during the 11:00am service. We spend the first part of the service together in church with the children usually leaving for their groups after the children’s talk. Groups take place in the Schoolrooms, which is located a short distance across the green outside St John’s. On the first and fifth Sundays, we have all age services for which children stay in the service. The children are escorted back by their leaders to rejoin the rest of the congregation before the end of the service.

The following groups are provided.

Crèche

A crèche for babies (0 to 3) is provided every Sunday at 11:00am. During all age services this is held in the main church building, at other times it is held in the Schoolrooms. The crèche is supervised so parents may leave their young children and rejoin the service.

Junior Church

Teaching and activities are split in order to provide age specific teaching for 3 to 14.

  • Scramblers 3 – 4 years
  • Climbers 5 – 6 years
  • Explorers 1 7 – 8 years
  • Explorers 2 9 – 11 years
  • Pathfinder 11 – 14 years

Pathfinders and CYFA

Pathfinders meets on a Sunday mornings (apart from 1st and 5th Sundays), and on Friday Evenings at 7:30pm in the Schoolrooms. CYFA meets in the Schoolrooms on Friday evenings at 7:30pm. See Youth Groups page.

Safeguarding / Child Protection

St John’s takes the safety and protection of children very seriously. We insist on CRB checks for all people involved in youth work or who have regular contact with children and young people. In addition, we run training courses on safeguarding to ensure that those who work with young people are aware of all the risks.
