St John’s Church

Our magnificent tower is a great landmark in visible throughout the town. Built in the 1300s from local stone, it has suffered from centuries of erosion, and misjudged repairs. The renovation of the tower was completed in 2016 and was recognised as a first class example of restoration, featuring on Channel 4’s Restoration of the Year.  You can find out more about the work on the tower below:


This talk was given in St John’s Church by Lisa Etherton who was in overall charge of the tower renovation and repair project for the main contractors, ‘Sally Strachey Historic Conservation’ (SSHC).
